Next we'll build the door for the end, finish the floor inside, some perches, cut a little chicken door, and.. start the whole process over on the other side. Ugh-- ask Joe.
It's going to be hard accomplishing our goal of getting this side done by tomorrow. Not for lack of interest, materials, or time. Rain. Rain. Rain.
I was going through some paperwork, and wanted to have it written down somewhere, the dates of when the "girls" came to live with us.
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful Bantam babies were picked-up on (I believe) May 8, 2009. While most of them were only three days old, some were born just that day. We picked up Sterling (Silverware) about a week later when she was three days old.
I have been trying to determine when we picked-up our "bigger" girls. Tim, I would appreciate it if you could look for the receipt from Hilltown - the Westerlo Agway - as it should have the exact date we purchased them, so that I don't have to hazard a guess.
I do know however, that we purchased 7 Brown Leghorns (because we were told they are good "layers"). We also purchased 2 Speckled Sussex because they too, are considered good layers. In addition, we bought 2 curry-colored chickens that are called, Comets because - you guessed it - they are good layers. And finally, we also bought 1 White Leg Brahm (now known as Linda "Butt Sniffer") because the standoffish and reserved manly man at the counter stated with quite a bit of passion and a half smile, "Now, the White Leg Brahm's are a good choice because they are beautiful, full-breasted birds that are great layers." Needless to say, he had us at "full-breasted".
May 15, 12 chicks. That makes them only about 6 weeks old?
ReplyDelete"Chicky" in the coup. What species is she? Definitely a cutie. She will be grand looking when she gets her feathers. She is Stace and Joey's favorite.
